This past 4th of July, a bunch of my friends and I went to go see some fireworks. As we sat in our lawn chairs in the park, we watched the little glowing embers skyrocket above our heads, then burst into dazzling, shimmering colors. Our faces got a little redder and our eyes a little brighter; someone plugged in their iPhone into the stereo, and we started jokingly fighting over who would DJ. We sang along to songs as loud as we possibly could, putting down our drinks to dance, running to the back door and swinging it open so we could take the conversations to the porch and feel the summer warmth on our bare legs under the stars.
Eventually, as always happens during nights of frivolity, we started pairing off to have deeper conversations. I ended up sitting with my good friend in the kitchen, deep in conversation. I had known this guy since middle school, and I had considered him one of my best friends for years.
But suddenly, I looked at him in an entirely different way—at his slightly ruffled brown hair that matched his smiling eyes as he wildly threw his arms up in the air in an emphatic, impassioned gesture to support his point.
Since that very first day I had met him in 7th grade math class, I had always known that my friend was unique, and there was something about him that drew me to him, that made me want him to be my friend.
But as I listened to him speak, I felt something break down between us. At that moment, as he spoke with such an impassioned grin, with his love for life lighting up his face, I truly saw how beautiful his soul really is.
Though I had known my friend for a solid decade, it was that night when I started to realize that if I had truly known him as well as I thought I did, I would have been head over heels for him for all of those years.
As he spoke, I felt myself unabashedly adoring every single part of what made him him. It took me ten years to realize that my friend was who I wanted to be with, but only one late night conversation to open my eyes to how truly, unequivocally amazing he really is.
Have you ever wondered why the absolute best, deepest conversations always happen late at night? There are barriers that we all put up during the day, that guard our deepest thoughts and passions , that keep us from truly knowing one another. When businesses close their doors in the evening and the world quiets down for sleep, we are able to let those barriers down, bit by bit, and display who we really are.
When the world is asleep, our souls are awake. Home Love Feeling All the Feelings. Sammy Nickalls February 28, 9: And so the night truly began. Giggles in your Inbox Subscribe to our daily newsletter and get the latest updates on fashion, beauty, style, and more.
What about the one I hooked up with? A bunch of people. Do NOT, under any circumstances, have a fun night…But call me tomorrow.
You may be in her pants, but son, she is in your head. DO NOT take lack of punctuation lightly at this stage. Giving birth, having menstrual cycles, and knowing we were created from one of your ribs can get pretty stressful, so take it with a grain of salt and try to play along.
And when in doubt — apologize. You probably know that every girl crafts her texts with as much time and purpose as her drink order from Starbucks- which, interestingly enough, also matches up with what she looks for in a dude; Double-tall skinny, vanilla; hold the cream… Anyways, what you probably don't know is how she crafts them or what she's actually trying to say.
I live on the west coast. That interaction, one could say, is the perfect symmetry of a friendship between a night owl and a morning person. The fact is, society tends to look down on those who stay up. You're thought of as more productive, efficient, and if you get up early and go to bed at a "reasonable" time. Yet some of history's most famous leaders and creatives did their best work at night. Some research even suggests that those who stay up late and sleep in regularly are smarter than those who don't.
Smart or not, here are 7 things night owls do on the regular that morning people will never understand:. I don't know a single morning person who can relate to this. Even on weekends, it seems morning people have body clocks that are set to times like 7AM. You know that feeling when you're out on a date and not sure where it's going Do you take her home?
Do you stay for more drinks and then take her home? But just because we like to be subtle, it doesn't mean we're not just as down to fuck sometimes. And might I point out, there's nothing wrong with that.
Believe it or not, girls like to have sex too. So the next time you're out with a girl and are having trouble reading the situation, here are a few signals you're about to get lucky, if you play your cards right of course. She's laughing and tapping you on the shoulder, or your leg, like "Oh, you're so funny, stop! Any sort of "casual" or "accidental" physical contact on a date is always a good sign she wouldn't mind touching more, if you get what I'm saying.
You're done with dinner and she suggests hanging around for more drinks, or heading some place else. Basically, she does not want to leave! Consider yourself a good date, because she's obviously enjoying your company.
You keep being charming, that some place else just might be her bed. How do you know if her bra and panties match though, right? You ask her, silly. It might catch her off guard, but ask her something like, "Do your bra and panties usually match?
