The majority of the time there are only two employees on duty; the cashier and a manager. The cashier has to try and be responsible for maintaining the front end by trying to monitor for theft, ring up customers, and stocking merchandise which is a lot when you have customers constantly there is no way to get to straightening or shelving merchandise.

The manager is supposed to be straightening and stocking as well but they are outside which I have witnessed every time I go there to shop which is sometimes 2 to 3 times a day smoking cigarettes. This is the same routine at all of the locations here. The cashiers are probably a little short tempered sometimes but they are probably tired because they work 7,8, and 9 hour shifts everyday and family dollar do not allowe a lunch break.

They have to work straight through without any down time. Family dollar is the worst. The call complaint hotline needs more operators because no surprise high call volume.

My biggest complaint and its a serious one. I was accused of shoplifting on Saturday at My local family dollar. To wrongfully accuse a law abiding citizen of stealing not once but multiple occasions with no proof. I have never stolen anything in my life. If this can happen to me can happen to anyone. As I was attempting to hand him the money to purchase my items he walked away from the register to help this other customer who entered the store after he scanned my items. This other customer was already been helped by another employee when he walked away from helping me while I was holding the money out for him to take.

The employees need to understand that they should complete one transaction before helping another customer. A family member has been a manager at one of your stores for about three years now. I have never ever seen such an abuse and lack of consideration for employees. Managers are forced to work long hours, at least 52, per week and if anyone calls out they must cover for them at no additional pay.

A manager cannot leave store unless an assistant manager is present. Not permitted to pay overtime to other assistant even though they are saving money not paying an additional full time ASM salary. They schedule conference calls during truck deliveries.

Manager is forced to use personal phone for these calls as store for has been out of service for months despite managers constant attempts to rectify. During this staff shortage store was renovated requiring additional hours and later after hours nights letting workers in and out of store.

Absolutely zero additional compensation and store hours were increased to open and close an hour earlier and later requiring additional time from manager. All this relying on one person to run your store is insane and extremely poor business practice. Managers are responsible to hire employees. The hiring process is online and horrible. People have complained that it took so long that they gave up. Manager had a prospective hire with experience.

It has been one month and still has not heard back or been vetted in any way. This is during a serious HELP shortage. No one can make this go faster? When this person is vetted and drug tested there is a several week training to boot. Perspective hire wants to also give 2 week notice at current job. Why does it take months to hire? The way I was treated was like I was the one entering the store smelling like marijuana. My grandmother was visiting your store in Cambridge Ohio on East Wheeling Ave when she fell on the sidewalk in front of store. Customer called because she was severely injured. So I go inside with the reciept and asked to exchange them. I was told all sales final and was not given an exchange even though I had the receipt in hand. I will never again shop at FD. Store in California City, Ca. I purchased some items today at Family Dollar and at first I could not find the cashier, which also happened to be the manager on duty. Once I found her, she rang up my items and asked if I would like to purchase a bag and I said yes.

I said no and she said in a very rude manner well I already charged you and I am not a mind reader. I then offered her the bag back and she replies No, my drawer will just be short.

I was once in the store for 20 minutes, whenever it is possible for you can get down the isles because of clutter everywhere, and the Manager went out on 2 cigarette breaks.

On Friday, I walked inside the store and again approximately 13 people waiting in line to be served, while of course the Manager is outside with her husband and daughter talking and laughing.
